Bagan School
We had a great opportunity to visit a government run school in Bagan. We took as many pictures as possible. They had classrooms for grade 2 through grade 8. The kids were very curious to see us wandering around taking pictures. Our guide was able to gain access to the school which was helpful. Classrooms have long wooden tables with small wooden chairs for students. Each room has one large chalkboard - no other technology is available. Kids bring their own lunches from home in metal pots with rice, soup, and vegetables. Also some villagers sell snacks to kids who have spending money. One sweet treat was molasses thickened and swirled on Popsicle sticks. Outside classes are waterpots for kids to drink during breaks. Classes are 45 minutes long with English taught as well as math. No science or social studies taught. Worship room is provided for prayers at the beginning of each day. During break time boys were playing soccer (football) in the heat on dirt field. More photos to come from visit to village next to this school!
