The Worlds Largest Book

I'm sure you have all heard of the Guinness World Records - and Mandalay has one tourist attraction to add to their collection.  In Mandalay we visited Buddhist Scriptures inscribed on marble slabs at Kuthodaw Pagoda.  Mindon Min had the pagoda built as part of the traditional foundation of the new royal city of Mandalay in 1857. They were arranged in neat rows for a total of 730 tablets.  The inscription is in an old language, so only scholars are able to translate.
shwenandaw monastery was King Mindon's home and it was completely constructed out of teak wood. We were so overwhelmed by the site, and some time has passed since visiting, so my facts may be a little faulty.  Refer to Wikipedia for some additional information (as accurate as Wikipedia can be). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuthodaw_Pagoda
